The marriage to a permanent resident does not automatically allow the spouse to reside or work in the United States, unless the spouse prior to marriage had a visa to reside or work in the US.

Status of dependents

The spouse and children of a permanent resident must wait abroad for the issuance of this permanent residency, except if each person possesses a non immigrant visa.

Immigration based on the connection to the status of the visa holder

Status of the spouse

The spouse connected to the visa holder can obtain a related residence permit. Certain visas also allow the spouse to obtain a work permit.

Status of the children

The children of the visa holder can obtain the related residence permit.
